FUTURE VISION OF THE NATIONAL WESTERN CENTER
The National Western Center will retain a major focus on events, but its vastly enhanced offerings will be capable of not only honoring the Stock Show’s long history and ensuring its continued success, but also of becoming a dynamic global engagement center that brings together preschool-12 experiential learning, research, commerce, competition, tourism and entertainment for the next 100 years. We expect an additional million visitors a year and to more than double the $115 million in annual economic contribution from today’s Complex.
The National Western Center will serve as a catalyst for the new West and a new way of thinking. It will set a new and higher standard that focuses on the stewardship of our land and investment in our agricultural resources to become a global leader in food production, research, water, energy and agriculture. It will tell the story of our frontier spirit through strong partnerships, a celebration of our Western heritage and pioneering opportunities for the future.
In addition, the Platte River, today brown and desolate, will go green and become inviting. A new commuter rail transit station – a single stop from Denver Union Station – will provide quick access to the National Western Center from the heart of one of the nation’s most attractive and fastest-growing cities. The I-70 East project will improve already excellent highway and international airport access. The drivers and passengers in the 150,000 vehicles that pass by each day will take in a new, inviting development, a place that reflects the city’s commitment to the greatness of the American West and our agricultural foundations.
